Hi Guys.......

We often spend a lot of time and energy , helping people with a query, only for them never to return to the site , and see the fruits of our labour !!

Is there a way , that they could be contacted , by email , to let them know , that some one has answered , or is trying to help with their problem ?

I am a "Rootschatter" , and we are contantly updated on our Threads.

I am NOT AT ALL technical , so I do not know what this entails , but I do feel it might make the site more popular......

No offence intended , you all do so much any way , just a question .

Regards

An excellent point Jeannie, and one which I hope the Administrators pursue. I am member of the Great War Forum and have posted 2 or 3 queries over the years. I still get a private email if someone has responded to any of these queries, with a link in the text to take me into the query and response itself. Many of us just don't have the time to "keep an eye" on the postings, in the hope there may be a response. As Jeannie points out, many of you spend valuable time searching for others, and it must be galling if it never gets seen by the enquirer.
Great suggestion Jeannie - how about it?

Sure its a good idea!
But for one thing, who would initiate the reply?
I don't think there would be enough people 'behind the scenes' to carry out this function.
(Need input from Mike on this)

In the bar immediately above the first message there's an item "Thread Tools". Click this (or the arrow next to it), and one of the options is Subscribe to this thread. Click that, and you should get an email whenever anyone replies.

You can further tweak your notification settings if you click User CP at the top of any page, then Edit Options. In the section Messaging & Notification you can select a default setting for how often you'd like to be notified of replies - or turn the feature off altogether if that's what you prefer.

As Arthur has mentioned above the facility already exists for posters to be alerted when someone has replied to their threads. I think that if someone posts, they should subscribe to that thread so that they can keep track of the replies but there is no way of compelling them to do so. A private message maybe one way, if it is fealt that there is a need to make a poster be aware that you have responded to a thread.
This site is dedicated more to providing information than engaging in the "chat" side of things. Our Admin and Moderators are engaged mainly in the technical side of the site, also transcribing and researching. We think that the website balance is about right. Obviously we consider all suggestions and thank everyone for there useful input.

All the best
Mike.
